The ‘I’ in ‘Team’

Today, we are asked to think about how changing one player on a team affects the overall success of the team.  We’re also to take into consideration the various All-Star Games, what with bringing all the best players together and pitting them against each other.

First off, theoretically, one player should not make or break a team, but that isn’t the reality.  I think of the drafts as the checks and balances of the sports world.  Any who, teams become families.  Being constantly together creates a special type of bond, regardless of how you feel about them outside of the sport.  The team, when first put together, has to learn how everyone plays and what each is capable of.  Once this is established, the team functions as one.  However, when this is disturbed, say a player or two are traded, the whole system goes off line so to speak.  Here is where some teams are hurt and some are relatively unscathed.  The whole process of integrating styles of play has to take place again, or the new members have to adapt to the established system.  This can take time, which can hurt a team in the beginning of a season.

As far as the All-Star games go, these are just teams of the best of the best pitted against one another for the sake of entertainment.  And maybe to see who really is the most talented.  When the various players are brought together, they have to switch from being against them to thinking of them as teammates.  This can be quite the challenge, and results in a remix of those players thoughts and actions.  Plus the all the competing playing styles have to be combined.

That’s all I can think of for this prompt.  Hopefully, it was enough to answer the question and inspire thoughts. Until next time, ~V
